Building psychological safety with your team is crucial to weather this situation and will also be key in community resistance.

If you need help with this process, let's chat. An accessibility audit might be a good place to start. I have 4 available this quarter.

It's worth creating time to come up with a plan for keep staff safe from ICE and dealing with hateful rhetoric. In addition it is important to codifying any accessibility - protecting what you do have in place, preserve the budget and resources, and fill in any gaps now.

Make sure you're creating a safe space for people to share their concerns and that the leadership is listening and acting appropriately.

Assess the risks and create an action plan to keep people safe, one that takes the input from the community, from the historically marginalized staff, and from organizers.

As someone who has done this work for many years in different forms, it's very important to let people know where you stand. This goes beyond words but more important will be your actions.
January 28, 2025 at 6:22 PM
Your people deserve more than empty platitudes and reassurances.

This is the time to be clear on the risks, your stances, and acknowledging the lack of safety many feel.

to reclaim our humanity, to find joy, to connect and to come back to a place where we are all liberated. These are my lived experiences. And I would really love some support on this.

Signed,
A really struggling, parent.

it's we're all fighting these systems that are unyielding and uncaring and frankly, not fit for purpose. This is our role right now, is to fight back against this capitalist, oppressive system and institutions that are literally killing us and squashing us and blocking us at every turn
January 21, 2025 at 7:51 PM
Every single person in your life probably is fighting something like this, whether it's smaller or bigger. It's not about a comparison,
January 21, 2025 at 7:50 PM
And I'm tired of feeling alone about things like this, because this is, this is the stuff that we are fighting against each and every day.

I've had very few pats on the back over the years of the good work I was doing as a homeschooling parent all these years.

And I think the most important thing is I am tired of feeling alone.

At the private school, the testing revealed that she scored very high on her verbal processing and communication and it's very clear that her analytical abilities are quite strong. I'm very proud of that.
January 21, 2025 at 7:50 PM
I desperately need to feel witness and applauded for all the work we have done.
January 21, 2025 at 7:49 PM
Bearing that would be finding tutors or smaller group, unusual group teaching settings that might be happening that can help Our child and us out right now, if there's other ideas, I'm open to them, but most of all, right now, I desperately need to be seen.
January 21, 2025 at 7:49 PM
Another idea is helping me draft letters, or for us to have a coordinated campaign to write to our local MP on our behalf about the situation, or contact media or other people who might be able to put some pressure on this situation.
January 21, 2025 at 7:48 PM
The options I feel that are open to us is helping me earn enough money so I can offer the tuition money to the private school.
January 21, 2025 at 7:48 PM
but at this time, she needs more support than we can give, especially given the importance of the test tests coming up.

I don't know what I need right now, but it would be really good to have some support.

However, this can't be the solution where we leave huge swaths of children out from the education system. I will also name that my child has been blessed with two adults who have given quite a lot to educate and challenge her in her in her academic pursuits,
January 21, 2025 at 7:46 PM
and there was times where I had 40 chairs in my classroom and I had to teach regardless. I'm not saying that that's the right answer, that overcrowding in schools is a big deal, and public school funding has been cut to the bone, and privatization are real things that impact schooling.
January 21, 2025 at 7:46 PM
And they're going To make it even more difficult to support those children, and there's literally no places for them. This is an untenable position.

When I was a teacher, we were just expected, as the school to accept students,

Yet the UK Government is continually looking at ways to shut down home education not supporting disabled, mentally challenged or neurodivergent children all over the country – one of the main reasons people home educate from the stories all over FB groups.
