I am embarrassed at how many times my husband and I have scoured the DirecTV channels to find a Dirty Harry film. Too many brain cells committed to random dialogue and scenes.

Here's how to do it.

OMG, me too. I still remember seeing that episode when it aired. My Dad about fell out of his chair laughing. I love that joke so much.

The queens don't actually possess the male species' genome themselves, so they must get it by mating. Only then can they produce sons of the other species (and the hybrid workers to raise them).

No, each M. ibericus queen must mate with at least one M. structor male to make workers, but that is before they produce their own M. structor sons. The language is confusing in the paper, but refers to what is happening at the population level.

Why female ants battle for foreign sperm
Queens get something from males of other species that they can't get from their own males

Mom does not actually mate with them - she stores all the sperm she'll ever use during a mating flight at the beginning. Her daughters might mate with them, but most likely they will mate with young queens from other colonies. This is the parasitism part - the male is using her to clone himself.

Yes - they need to insert language reasserting the primacy of peer review and career staff evaluation in determination of awards, not political appointee "judgement.".

How can we get them to insert stipulations on discretionary grant decisions, requiring scientific merit (peer review and career staff evaluation) be prioritized over other considerations? Statute seems like the only way to stop the EO on "oversight" from turning the process into a spoils system.
