It only recently occurred to me that most of my favourite films are sad.
Finally got around to playing (and have just finished) Resident Evil Village. Late to the party as usual, but what a banger. Not as scary as Resi7 (except for the Beneviento sequence), but excellent as a more Resi4-adjacent action game.

Somehow nailed the exact perfect timing for getting back into Vampire Survivors. Like, didn’t even know about the 1.14 update beforehand. Ditto the Balatro crossover.

Just finished Monster Hunter Wilds’ HR questline; this game is such a huge step up from Rise. God knows I have my gripes and I don’t think it’s as good as World, but I’m so glad that this one basically clicked for me.

Monster Hunter x Final Fantasy collab v2? Cool. The fact that it’s not just Behemoth again and is, in fact, some huge ass robot? Even cooler (although Behemoth did rule). Chocobo skins for Seikrets? Let’s be honest: that might just be the big draw.

Honestly, an underappreciated part of how FromSoft’s games reward knowledge is that the more you know about each location, the more confident you are about just running through the maps and ignoring the enemies ‘cos you know you safely can. More games should reward that kind of knowledge.
Honestly this felt worse than souls.
In souls, enemies usually lose interest in you and stop following you.
In Mina, enemies will follow you for ages, hunting you down.
Don't force people to have to get their bones back if you make it impossible to do so in a rush.

Honestly, an underappreciated part of how FromSoft’s games reward knowledge is that the more you know about each location, the more confident you are about just running through the maps and ignoring the enemies ‘cos you know you safely can. More games should reward that kind of knowledge.

Early Nightreign thoughts, minimal spoilers. Still haven’t beaten the first main boss. Got a kick out of how the opening lord-dump cutscene feels more obligatory than anything else. Love the bait-and-switch with an early character unlock. Movement is fun, but climbing up cliffs is janky.
