The Bijloke site in Ghent spans more than eight centuries of history. In 1225 Ermentrude and Fulco Uten Hove founded a hospital and an abbey on the Bijlokemeersen, outside the city walls at the time.

St Peter's Church in Ghent is the former abbey church of the adjacent St Peter's Abbey. The church was built in the 17th century on the remains of the Romanesque abbey church.
