My @qutdmrc.bsky.social colleague @snurb.info now up in our #aoir2025 elections panel, talking about our work studying the 2025 Australian Federal election. Key highlights of this work is the splintering of discourse across multiple platforms combined with challenges in observing those platforms.

We had a fabulous roundtable discussion with @anjabechmann.bsky.social @dscheykopp.bsky.social @tgrootkormelink.bsky.social @jiarut.bsky.social here at #aoir2025 that concluded with a thought exercise: "It's 2030 & data donation is the dominant data gathering paradigm, what must we get right today?"

Great to be here at @gesis.org at the same time as my wonderful Canadian colleagues @philipmai.com & @gruzd.ca. The @qutdmrc.bsky.social is the Australian partner of the polidashboard.org an initiative of their @socialmedialab.ca. A wonderful tool for enhancing transparency of political advertising.

Absolutely lucked out on my academic visit to Amsterdam this week by timing it with a once every 5 year mass sailing event. These tall ships are absolutely gorgeous, and there are about 60 of them that all sailed in together today.

I'm in Beijing this week. In terms of Olympic cities it's a stark contrast between the Paris active transport model to here. Seems like the LNP state and local gov are leaning into the car-centric model for Brisbane 2032, how limiting.

The new Labor member for Griffith was clearly hard at work while her local party mate approved the climate destruction and Indigenous heritage vandalism of the North West Shelf project. Sure glad this seat is out of the hands of the Greens and back in the hands of a true Labor 'progressive' 🙄

Absolutely classic Brisbane City Council move here, at Kelvin Grove Rd near QUT, this awful and deadly intersection gets an 'upgrade'. A sea of concrete, zero deep rooted shade trees (where they could easily fit) and still missing a pedestrian crossing on one side.

I can understand Palmer's Trumpet kooks spamming everyone, but @australianlabor.bsky.social which one of you clowns thought this was a good idea? Preferences are a suggestion anyway, and regardless you're the cowards who are running an open ticket in MacNamara. Please go outside and touch some grass

Obligatory #democracySausage content. But seriously, great to live in a country that has compulsory preferential voting. #auspol

A few 2-wheeled friends turning up for a fun snap protest over the annexation of the main bikeway in Brisbane by the Star Casino. We'll disco-ride our way around the casino to 'activate' their main driveway the same as they 'activated' the bikeway these past weeks.

This morning's online meeting had a "festive background" theme. To me nothing speaks of Christmas spirit quite like a dramatic LA skyline at twilight.

My dad has been restoring the Qualcast cylinder mower that belonged to my great-grandfather. He's made good progress so far and it is looking beautiful.
