Back from two months of Greenland fieldwork! Managed to not lose my mind next to the big ice cube, saw the northern lights, and most importantly collected good data and noticed interesting eco patterns of my new freshwater study system! Now time to make sense of everything!

Welcome to another episode of “what the heck am I doing with my life?!”.
Today, I’m setting nets in the arctic for the first chapter of my #PhD! We’re trying to figure out the different niches anadromous charr (eqaluk in Greenlandic) occupies in the different fjord types!

*PhD update*
After spending two winters in the tropics I’m getting ready to spend the next three summers in the arctic 🙃

A month to go until I head out to Greenland to figure out why would fish leave the safety of freshwater for the dangers of the sea 🌊

Enjoying this office view until then!

I spent so much time excitedly spotting frogs instead of actually taking pictures. @fergusbr.bsky.social took the best frog picture I've seen! 🐸

During the trip, I got seasick out of my mind, so my plan for now is to stare at drawings of sparkly fish on university corridors 🐟

During a roadtrip of 🏔️ Pelio, I came across this marvelous 1000yrs old plane tree in Tsagarada. It even needs its own little armrest!

The numbers are out!

In my months with the Guppy Project🇹🇹 I marked …*drumroll*… 2450 guppies! 🐟

@tomospotter.bsky.social counted them one by one. What a great round number! What an insane population rise this last dry season!

Anyway, if you’re looking for anyone to mark fish in your lab, hmu 😉

I blinked, and just like that 7 months in the tropics passed! Sad to be leaving the paradise that is Trinidad and the great GuppyProject, but I am sure I will find my way back sooner or later.

Picture of our holiday neighbour, an endemic motmot!

Back to the jungle 🇹🇹 and a very dry rainy season with a ton of guppies 🐠

The only thing dulling my excitement of heading back to Trinidad is saying goodbye to this twpsyn for seven months!

Last trawling trips in the Aegean, feeling blue for not having seen any dolphins all these months. Then it happened! Early in the morning, three fins in the horizon! And at night, another one swimming next to the trawler, gleaming in the moonlight! A beautiful parting gift 🐬

Hello 🌌 world! ‘Tis me, Antigoni, biologist & ecologist, trying to find my place in the world. Currently working in fisheries in 🇬🇷, but here’s a pic of my happiest, surrounded by bromeliads in 🇹🇹. Soon to be giving you updates from the jungle again!🍃
