Music-making is a ritual in itself. It adds another layer that the music I perform in Departure draws its inspiration directly from real rituals.

Underwater in the night is for sure where alien lives. Night dive & recording is scarily exciting.

I think I’m addicted to #spatialaudio now — I just can’t go back to stereo. It makes so much more musical sense. More to share!

The sound of Sea Urchins is as spooky as how they look! I was quite scared, snorkelling on top of them with my super ambix hydrophone set.

Working on a Sea Urchins song for #underwater 😆

Different frogs!

The variety of frog singing is stunning. The best gamelan music is just played in communities. A random ceremony by the temple has world class music.

I almost feel that every Bali people is amazing musician. They told me they just know how to play as they have it since they were born.

Bali is an island of sound. It got a sense of wild feelings which I haven’t experienced for a long time.

We’ve been in the process of making the next project, Underwater, diving and snorkling while recording the underwater sound. Here are some snapshots of the coral and fish sounds we recorded in the last two months in Taiwan XiaoLiuQui 小琉球 and Bali Banyuwedang!
March 18, 2025 at 2:35 PM
We’re still refining the recording gear and process. I can’t wait to start creating new music with these sounds soon!

The underwater world here is stunningly beautiful- full of lives, and full of sound. I was deeply moved, feeling both happy and sad at the same time. I can’t help but wonder: was life on land once just as beautiful?
