Sharing a little pansy/candle piece I made back in March ☂️ • Needlepoint thread and yarn over burlap, 4 x 4”
A 4x4” needlepoint square with whip stitched pale blue edges scanned on a black background. Behind the primary image of a minimal, purple and yellow pansy with face-shaped splashes of white and black stitching, “25” sits in small yellow letters in top left, four rectangles of yellow at bottom evenly spaced mimic the light of the room I sat in stitching this, with a white taper candle in candlestick lit at right all over an orange field. Back view of the needlepoint piece; Looks similarly patterned and color blocked to the front side but on the back it exposes all the tucked tails of thread zig-zagging across neighboring colors

This view shows warped puckering and tension in the bottom left side, and throughout the back there are barely visible speckles of color from yarn I used to repair the burlap that was breaking and deteriorating as I worked to cover it. The surface is now fully covered with yarn and design, nearly complete!

I was flying from refills of diner coffee in one of those reassuringly dense mugs this morning and decided I needed to make this Ins/outs list before the new of the year totally expired :

I’m filling in the background of this needlepoint tapestry/diary right now, started on a large coffee sack in 2022;
Every stripe of the plaid bit was a broken thread of burlap I replaced along the way — there were many more since covered, so I’m leaving this here in case of future forgetting 🐎 #wip
