When I was Christian,I suspected the mark referred to a secret belief/commitment. If I made a fiction movie,I'd depict the light of wisdom descending from the hero, Satan,upon a man who now saw his old religion as the early dreams of an ape. His mind would be markedly more consistent, ordered, true.
