Can't say the marketing doesn't work, I suppose. I'm personally a magic guy who wishes we hadn't started getting into outside IPs, but even I have to admit they did a great job on final fantasy mtg cards if you want them.

After quick look through mtg cards with wind in the name, it looks like the closest they come to a theme is "Things that make flying creatures better" and other than that they're removal spells, counter spells, and few burn spells, cards that kill flying creatures, not much consistency

Turns out 4x rhystic study in 1v1 sorta limited is pretty good. Less good vs rebels in particular though. Just opened 7th ed so we've played 3 matches so far. Bans so far are rishadin port, snuff out, seal of fire, parallax wave, gush, lin sivvi and a random 2 drop rebel.

After that you add the new cards to your collection, play again, ban again, rinse and repeat until the collections get too big and you reset them to 0 before opening the next one. So we started in masques, we might reset for say, the first kamigawa set

As for what I'm doing, most recently it's been retrofitting yugioh's progression series to work with mtg with a friend of mine. You pick a set to start with, we used mercadian masques, you open 24 packs build your deck out of those then play. Winner gets a ban, lower two bans. Then open the next set

Graft is a great mechanic that I doubt we ever see again because it's clunky online. Especially with things like hardened scales and it's ilk.

It's interesting seeing people screech about esports not being real sports and linkjng them to immaturity. I've never heard of anybody saying similar about, say, competitive chess.

No, I'm an MTG guy who has dabbled in yugioh a few times, inevitably get very sick of its shit very quickly, then 9 months to a year later forget why I stopped playing the last time and try again. Master Saga and other limited yugioh watching experiences are still very fun though

I can't really defend this one, but Kaladesh, before aether revolt released was a lot of fun because it was the first time I built meta (or close to it) and had a really good run with boros vehicles

Not news to you, but I remember Charlie Puth-Attention having a really nice bass line

My brother just phrased it in a way that gave me something of a visceral reaction. "Congressional democrats act like this because they don't fundamentally grasp that if Trump gave GOP congressmen knives and told them to go stab democrats a decent chunk would comply."

Yeah, I can't help but wonder at what point the UB haters get to just say "We told you this was a bad idea." To my mind at this point there's basically two options either the sets do well but standard is significantly less affordable, or eventually a set absolutely bombs and the LGSs get hurt

It does look cool but man is that a pain to read if you don't already know the card

It definitely doesn't hype me up for UB, it makes me sad that instead of half mtg in my mtg sets it's going to be closer to 25% if this pattern holds

If you'll recall, Neon Dynasty was beloved as a set even when people had reservations about the theme at first. The issue with the MKM, thunder junction and now aetherdrift sets is that it mostly just feels like established mtg characters playing dress-up not a genuine genre exploration.

Man, knowing that this is the type of stuff we can expect in the real magic IP is a real bummer for me. Really sick of these dress up sets
