visari matriarchs are sessile and unrecognizable in comparison to other castes. Fertilization occurs as sperm is deposited into the surrounding pool and taken up by the 'Roots,' with eggs growing on the 'branches' and falling into the water when nearly ready to hatch.

legendary dragon that has been harassing a village for generations. its actually a massive swarm of wasps that flies in a tight cloud, patrolling within some km of the hive. they attack and push animals towards the hive, killing them for food and incorporating the bones into the growing hive

Nibb, strange frenetic bookstore owner. Literacy rates in the Outside are quite low so her business is niche. It's also pretty exclusive because she won't sell to someone until she knows they won't just use the book's pages for rolling paper or toilet paper.

Millie: a shy, inept failgirl of a mage. Her Lantern* was previously a fellow mage whom she had an obsessive unrequited crush on. When she died, Millie preserved her as a Lantern and continues to have an unhealthy attachment to it
