Just purchased a 1952 World Almanac on eBay. Yes, it’s for a project. No, I wouldn’t surprise myself if it weren’t.

Sometimes our paths can be confusing, disorienting and seemingly endless. On this day, as I do every year at this time, I ask you to take just a few seconds tomorrow to tell someone around you — anyone — that you care. Who knows? It might make all the difference. 

If ever there was a book that came close to being literally written for me, it is this one that just arrived for me to read in the new year.

In 1990, Jimmy Carter came to visit Penn State. I was freelancing and headed to State College airport with my friend David Martin, then AP correspondent in the area. Carter approached us on the tarmac and talked with us for nearly 10 minutes. One of my earliest brushes with history as a journalist.
