Up bright and early in advance of giving evidence to House of Commons Northern Ireland Affairs Committee on the operation of the Windsor Framework. I hope to be focusing on North-South and East-West cooperation and relations.

Great to hear John Campbell refer to the inspirational thinking of Sir George Quigley as he welcomes delegates to the Dublin Belfast Economic Corridor 2025 Summit. This year @crossborder.bsky.social will be organising the 10th Sir George Quigley Annual Memorial Lecture.

Very much looking forward to today's Dublin-Belfast Economic Corridor conference and hearing about how cross-border cooperation across sectors can maximise economic and social potentials.

A change of location for 2nd day of conference on European citizenship and the (re)appearance of borders. Yesterday we were in European Parliament, and today we're in the University of Strasbourg.

Getting a feel for the room ahead of conference at the European Parliament. I'll be talking about being and not being an EU citizen on the island of Ireland.

Just arrived in Strasbourg for a conference tomorrow in the European Parliament. It's a bit chilly!

It was an honour to moderate a panel yesterday at the United States Institute of Peace in Washington DC, focusing on the impacts of the implementation bodies under Strand 2 of the Good Friday Agreement. And great to hear the inspirational address by the US Special Envoy, Joe Kennedy III.

I don't get out often, but when I do it's good. Fantastic night with The Undertones.

Delighted to have taken part in a panel on North-South and East-West relations at the #FuturePolitics conference. I stressed the need for decision-makers to "border-proof" their policies when they're being developed in order to support cross-border cooperation instead of creating obstacles.
November 24, 2023 at 1:03 PM
John Swinney begins his keynote address to the #FuturePolitics conference by referring to his admiration of John and Pat Hume and all their work for peace and reconciliation.

I'm sure others have had the pleasure of coming across this rare collection at Castle Leslie, but it gave me a chuckle.
November 1, 2023 at 9:53 PM
It's true to say that the implementation bodies under Strand 2 of the Good Friday Agreement may not have captured the public imagination, but they've been getting on with their work for almost 25 years even when the political institutions have not been functioning.

The British Irish Parliamentary Assembly report and recommendations on "Protecting the CTA in the post-#Brexit era" are very welcome. Among other aspects, pleased to see reference made to what CCBS have been calling for in terms of "border-proofing" of legislation.
