Wonderful, affecting event tonight. 'Heart-wrenching' highlight being Michael Morpurgo reading his poem 'Yew and Me' accompanied by Iddesleigh String Quartet playing 'On the Nature of Daylight' by Max Richter. Thank you @yorkfestofideas.bsky.social

Interesting read.
"Across Westminster and Whitehall, the lessons from those working at the intersection of the state and people’s daily lives should inform a renewed statecraft that enables generative reform to develop and spread".

Inspiring to hear about the important work of Holocaust Centre North at tonight's #HolocaustMemorialDay event @yorkstjohn.bsky.social. Stories of survivors & their descendants linked to our region are preserved to tell history & inform our future.

Thanks to residents for inviting us - their ward councillors - down to Monkbridge Landing to plant daffodil bulbs for spring colour next year - a couple of hundred in the ground. Volunteers make vital contributions to improving & maintaining York's 'public realm'.

Delighted to move a motion at Thursday night's 'Full Council' to renew York's commitment to fair trade & our status as a Fairtrade City on its 20th anniversary. Thanks to my Labour & Co-operative colleagues for seconding & speaking in favour of it, & for the cross-party, unanimous support!

British music is booming at the top - but we’re losing the pathway so many rely on to get there.

Community assets are safest in community hands. We must safeguard our incredible cultural export by bringing more grassroots venues into community ownership.
