4/ I am committed to working with my colleagues to explore policy solutions to help attract and retain the businesses that strengthen our community. We must continue to fight a #ColumbiaHeightsDC where our small businesses don’t just survive (as many have been since the pandemic)—they thrive.

3/ However, some of those areas see just as many businesses opening, but we do not. This is a gut punch but must also be a wake-up call. Columbia Heights deserves an economy that works for its businesses, workers, and residents.

2/ The past six months have brought too many shuttered storefronts, leaving gaps in our vibrant commercial corridors and raising serious concerns about the future of small businesses in our neighborhood. This is not an isolated case, as much of the District is experiencing similar closures.

This month is a reminder of that (continued) struggle but also of the progress and boundless optimism that has guided generations in our resilient quest to overcome. This month is an opportunity to acknowledge history and appreciate and celebrate the progress achieved.
