Memphis Grizzlies, African American History, Hip Hop and Punk Rock. Let’s build a better world.
Incredible write up of last night’s jersey retirement. I only wish Herrington had included the quote ‘milk that horse’ when Tony talked about riding the hot hand. Just…so Tony, like last night’s ceremony.

Herrington: Tony Allen took over and reminded Memphis why it loves him
Chris Herrington: “On and off the court, Allen turned being an NBA player into a kind of lunatic performance art, and in Memphis, he found a deeply appreciative audience.”

@chrisherrington.bsky.social echoes many of my own thoughts here. Tighter playoff rotations are coming, but Jenkins will face pressure to show he can win at the next level. A first round exit is the worst outcome for this team at this point.

Herrington: As playoffs approach, Grizzlies' two-track season approaches one big test
The NBA’s 82-game regular season comes with two primary goals: Qualify and position yourself for the playoffs and prepare yourself to compete when you’re there.

Trip was unguardable tonite. Amazing play on both ends of the floor. Just too many mistakes for the Grizzlies in this one.

When is the last time Grizz lost back to back home games?
Second night in a row where the Grizzlies have lost on a clutch shot from an opposing star. Second night in a row too many self-inflicted wounds put them in that position. Ruined a GREAT Jaren Jackson Jr. game.

Ja found what he needed and led the team to victory. As Jenkins said, after another night like that, to battle as Ja did down the stretch and make huge plays? That is the definition of resiliency.
Not trying to be a hater. Just observing.

When Ja was not on the court, the team ignited and went on a 10-0 run with pure good energy.

Whatever your feelings about politics, as a professional historian of the United States I am here to tell you I did not believe I would ever see a day when a sitting US president would back an avowed Soviet president over NATO allies at the United Nations.

Whole league needs to figure out how to beat the Cavs. OKC, too
Knicks need to figure out how to beat this team

The Phil Jackson rule
Reminder:
37 of the last 41 NBA champs 🏆 won 40 games before losing 20.

Update on the circle of contenders:

Confirmed:
Thunder, Cavs, Celtics

Out:
Nuggets

Hanging by a thread:
Knicks, Grizzlies
(Both are 37-19 and need to win 3 straight)

Turning off the Grizzlies game.

The Ja thing is concerning. He is making the team worse during his minutes. I hope he can get it sorted out.

And then he said: ‘we’re getting fired anyway Ernie. Fu*k it!’

@chrisherrington.bsky.social - I didn’t hear the mailbag bell, but in light of your column today do you think Grizz could be active on the buyout market? Bruce Brown, if bought out, seems like an obvious choice. Might guys like Larry Nance, Jr be sneaky helpful? Is VWJ the obvi internal answer?

If you subscribe to my definition that it takes three to make a streak, the Grizzlies will head to the All-Star break without having had a single losing streak this season. At a glance, I think only OKC and Boston can say the same.
