Hardly new info, but BSky should know:

Warsaw's water quality is monitored by eight clams with magnets attached to their shells. If contamination in the water causes the clams to close, the magnets trigger an alarm and shut off the city's water supply.
Thank you, little guardian molluscs.

From a journalist friend: Just spreading the word. The CDC is purging data, so people should archive their favorite CDC datasets today, namely ones around race/ethnic diversity, LGBTQ, and reproductive health. Also health data involving climate. The youth risk behavior survey has already gone down.

In the last article in our Soil Invaders series on the impact of invasive plants in Ireland, led by @anthealacchia.bsky.social, I ask:

Should one of Ireland's most invasive species be a tourist attraction? #Rhododendron

My latest on invasive species for @investigates.thejournal.ie
Invasive plants play havoc with the environment, causing species to go extinct and damaging ecosystems.

Despite this, if you walk into many garden centres and shops in Ireland, you will be able to buy them and take them home.

Over the past six months, @anthealacchia.bsky.social has been looking into invasive plants for @investigates.thejournal.ie

The first article in her investigative series, SOIL INVADERS, is out now and reveals that their management cost local authorities over €8.5 million in just four years:

“we silence the song of the Earth. We live in a much quieter world than even 50 years ago, there is 60% less buzzing, croaking, roaring, scuttling, blooming, singing and erupting life. Planet Earth is increasingly threadbare; it seems E. O. Wilson was right.” [We live in the Age of Loneliness.]
