And it doesn’t stop when he’s gone. The fight for an equitable future for everyone continues regardless of who is leading the government because the fight is beyond the government. It’s a clarion call of purpose to life. Everybody should be okay and we should work to make it so they are.

And mutual aid that our friends, families, and most importantly - strangers are going to need to get through some really dark times ahead. We will. We will get through them. We have to choose to make the small differences when we can and to provide the aid to those who need it at their worst moments

It can and will get better and these fuckers are not allowed to take that core hope from me. No one is. Maybe I will post through it. Maybe I’ll start a bowling league or a monthly game night (actually already did) or schedule a karaoke party (also did that) or never tire from the acts of charity

And we need to work to listen to their voices, amplify their call, and work so they can stand on level ground with the rest of us demanding the difference that can change this perpetual madness into an equitable future. I don’t care if it sounds naive in this dark moment. I believe it.

It’s on all of us to make the small difference for good in the immediate world around us and to use our voices and our activism to demand changes for good in the larger world. And while I may not be helpless or hopeless, there are already disadvantaged populations who through the social contract are

Hope. Seeing the literal physical institutions of government (however broken and fucked they were before this moment of crisis) gave me a sense of perspective. Shit is about to be awful and bad and tiring and brutal in ways we probably can’t even expect but it’s so far from forever.

Hopelessness. I was speaking at a conference in MD this week and after my business had wrapped up, I discovered I was a 25 minute drive from the White House so for the first time since I was in high school (sigh 20+ years ago), Mr. Andrew went to Washington. What I found there surprised me.
