🗡️ Indigo - Kalends of June

"A page arrived today with tidings that King Arthur means to hold a Grand Tournament near the end of July. We're all to return and compete if we wish. This is my chance to do the honorable feats that've so far eluded me!"

🗡️ Amber - Kalends of June

"Sable's 'inquisition' places me in grave danger. If I'm to survive, I require allies . . . and after hearing of Sable's wrath, I've no care to beg Arthur's forgiveness. Let my allies be the enemies of Camelot!"

(On this turn, Amber became a Dreaded Fallen Chevalier.)

🗡️ Sable - Continued

"They'd hear no excuse or explanation, so I dismounted . . . and for days sat listening to their grievances, giving my word to bear them back to Camelot.

"This seemed to calm them enough. I expect I shall be able to continue my journey tomorrow..."

If all players are comfortable with that kind of character being in the party, allow the IC friction to happen. The other PCs may quarrel or even fight with the evil PC (and vice-versa), but if the players trust each other, they'll use that to make the story even better.

The dexterity factor also mattered a fair bit for one's success, but you kinda knew you were setting yourself up for the potential of "fun frustration" going in. It was very lighthearted, and neither of us got peeved because our rolls kept missing.

Dice absolutely landed on the floor, though.

I played a medieval war game like this a couple of times. (Can't recall the title, sadly.) Cards represented units, with each unit throwing a certain polyhedral die to deal damage. Dice landing on any card (yours or opponent's) dealt damage.

The board was a thick cardboard to prevent damage.

Hey, I'd be in the same boat. Every time my brother sees my build, he mentions how inefficient it is, so clearly idk what I'm doing. 😂

I feel like 200 hours is the minimum to understand the game and 2,000 is the minimum to understand the lore. It's a fun "run-and-gun," though!

I don't play much, but since you posted this image...

AYYYYY, TEAM OBERON!

That's a great idea! (As someone with too many ideas to realistically work on, I feel your pain. Might have to try that, myself.)

And I apologize for insinuating you were rushing. I meant to say there's no rush. Your only timeline is your own. 😁

Conversely, what's the rush? You aren't competing with anyone else, so you can always make a project a slow burn if you want. I remember a big designer (I think it was Jamey Stegmeier) saying "no 'zero' days." If you just make one card a day (or week), that's still progress! 🙂

Okay, so similar niche but offering a different fundamental "feel." Thanks for clarifying!

I like it! It seems like a neat system, and I can see how it'd appeal to both board game and ttrpg groups--and hey, no one has to be the "forever GM" for this one! 🙂

I remember seeing the trailer for this game and wondering whether they'd be able to pull off something so expansive and ambitious. Thrilled to see they have!

I'm curious: do you feel like it fills a different niche than a ttrpg? At first glance, there seems to be some similarities.

Scythe and Terraforming Mars are top of the 2016 list for me. Both are phenomenal!

The flow of play and action economy in Scythe are so fluid (and the automa is slick!), and the synergized mechanics of Terraforming Mars are genuinely some of the most brilliant I've seen in any game.

🗡️ Sable - Pentecost

"BLASTED CURS! I spurred my horse faster, faster in the direction I was certain Amber had fled, and yet I'd scarcely gone ten furlongs when another company of brigands ambushed me!

"Again, I rode hard and escaped, but I tire of this. This is Amber's devilry--I've no doubt!"

🗡️ Cinnabar - Pentecost

"I've no idea what possessed me to ask the local peasantry about the fountain of changing colors. EVERY place they've told me to look has so far been naught but a heath . . . or a hillock . . . or a copse. I sense I'm beginning to waste my time..."

🗡️ Silver - Continued

"The serpent's body thrashed our ship. We held fast and struck with bows, harpoons, and blades! When it had weakened, we cast a great net over it and hauled it to shore.

"I shall need an army of retainers to help bear it to Camelot, but the reward shall be great, indeed!"

🗡️ Silver - Pentecost

"I'd no expectations to spend Pentecost on the deck of a ship, much less battling the legendary Afanc! Yet this creature menaces the western waters of our kingdom, and my oaths demand I rally to the realm's defense..."

🗡️ Indigo - Pentecost

"My wounds mended, I returned to sort out the troll that'd bested me weeks ago. Joyously, I was better prepared this time, and it fell to my blade before it could assault the village nearby!

"Lord willing, my quest has regained its pace and purpose. Time shall tell..."

🗡️ Emerald - Continued

"I removed my hand and bid it depart. Its gaze seemed so clever as it stared at me in the moment before it bounded off.

"No sooner it fled than another beast came upon me--a great white hound! A fay but companionable thing, it hasn't left my side in the days since!"
