I vaguely remember there being a checkbox asking whether I can be contacted about non-GISH related things and I thought I'd say yes just for fun. so I thought I only had myself to blame for the new emails?

that's okay. But I really think it's not as bad as I thought it would be ;) maybe I'm just used to different antlers than the ones you had in mind :)

true. it's a bit more of an investment - but maybe looking for refurb ones? as a stand alone (not with integrated monitor or sth ) I got one of mine for around 80€ (would've been cheaper in US) . I could test using a cheapish monitor (<100€) like my raspberry Pi one with it if it helps?
