Ah. So sad. I only just “discovered” him, through a second-hand copy of _Dinosaur impressions : postcards from a paleontologist_, an impulse purchase from Oxfam in Lincoln.

It’s v much like that scene in _Jurassic Park_!

@robwords.bsky.social Hi! I enjoyed your video about temporal terms. Re the use of minutes & seconds in geometry as well as time keeping, did you know that both are used in astronomical coordinates? Declination is measured in degrees, minutes & seconds; right ascension in hours, minutes & seconds.

That was a fun episode!

You might appreciate this as a guide to the relationships among the different clades of animals you discussed. I think you missed out my favourite marine reptiles. the mosasaurs.

Playing Holotype the other day, I came across a v odd generic name, 𝑍𝑏𝑦. The folks who described it were kind enough not to make everyone struggle ŵ Zbyszewski, the surname of the paleontologist after whom it was named. 😏

#potteryPainting at Center Parcs Longleat Forest. A rough pastiche of @palaeojules.bsky.social’s print. The stalks are too broad & I didn’t really capture the “biloba” leaves, so maybe it’s a different kind of ginkgo …

Another one of the prints I bought at @dinoconuk.bsky.social (technically @tpbunny.bsky.social procured this for me).

@robwords.bsky.social @jesszafarris.bsky.social Re “Why the ‘cockpit’?”, & the phonetic alphabet, here is my dad’s drawing of the plane he flew in in WW2, “B Baker”. The “First Again!” refers to the bets the crews used to have on which plane would be first back to base at RAF Burn, near Selby.

Happy #YorkshireDay!

This flag is the official flag of the #WestRiding of Yorkshire, the Riding I was born in.

It was designed by Michael Faul, originally as a candidate for the flag of Yorkshire, as a whole, but lost out to the blander design of a white rose on a blue background.

Happy #AphelionDay!

The Earth reaches aphelion, its farthest point from the Sun, today at 19:54 UT. Earth is now approximately 152.1 million kilometres (94.5 million miles) from the Sun.

I do like the use of “concentric circle” diagrams rather than trees. Here’s a chart that I created to show the relationships among things often considered to be “dinosaurs“ (correctly or incorrectly) – or not (birds!). Any expert advice on how to improve it would be welcome!
