And now I'm here.

Star Trek V: The Final Frontier was an outstanding ST:TOS third season episode.

Movies seldom show #vampires stepping out of or into #coffins because it looks silly (Seriously. Remember the first time you saw someone get out of a coffin? Awkward!).

#AbbottAndCostelloMeetFrankenstein (1948) may be the first movie to show #Dracula doing it.

Richard Matheson wrote a third, unpublished #KolchakTheNightStalker screenplay, "The Night Killers." Kolchak fights aliens in Hawaii. Chuck Miller's adaptation links it to the lost aliens with a taste for bone marrow episode "They Have Been, They Are, They Will Be..."

My favorite #UniversalMonsters are #Dracula and #Frankenstein 's Creature. We never got to know the Bride. The #WolfMan was OK but Larry Talbot was a whiny creep. Karloff's #Mummy was the best, later versions were just lumbering revenge machines. I

They say the Star Trek: Enterprise episode "Dawn" is a shameless rip off of the movie "Enemy Mine."

I don't see it.

Star Trek V: The Final Frontier would've been a FANTASTIC TOS third season episode.

Night of the Lepus (1972) costars two Star Trek alums, DeForest Kelley and Paul Fix, fighting giant mutated bloodthirsty rabbits. Also starring Stuart Whitman and a fluffle of bunnies.

They could've used Elmer Fudd.

On this official #CryptidDay, created by the #ChurchOfGnome (est. January 25, 2024), I'd like to make note of the #Woodbooger. The Woodbooger is a #Bigfoot like creature said to wander SW Virginia. Norton, VA, hosts an annual festival in its honor.

In the season 2 episode "Singularity" of Star Trek: Enterprise, Captain Archer struggles to write a one page preface to a biography of his father. T'Pol declines to write it for him. If only the AI bubble hadn't burst he could use ChatGPT. This is probably for the best.

No one played a maniacal witch like #LaraParker. Whether she was the vengeful #Angelique chasing Barnabas on #DarkShadows, or the fashion model Madelaine Perkins hexing her way to success on #KolchakTheNightStalker, she left no scenery unchewed when the cameras were rolling.

Night of Dark Shadows (1971) is a less lurid movie than House of DS. Focusing on Quentin Collins, it is tale of ghosts, possession, reincarnation, and centuries old murder and revenge. And witches.

Notable mainly as the screen debut of Kate Jackson.

House of Dark Shadows (1970) is a bloodier retelling of the original Barnabas Collins storyline from the TV soap opera.

Relying on watchers' knowledge of the show, the movie sacrifices characterization for lurid set pieces. Not that that's a bad thing.

"Dark Shadows" was almost canceled due to low ratings during its first season. The introduction of angsty vampire Barnabas Collins in episodes 211-220 saved the show.

Supernatural shenanigans ensued.

In Dan Curtis' "Bram Stoker's Dracula" (1974) TV movie, Dracula is impaled standing up with a spear against an upended table.

Also the first Dracula to feature the reincarnation of Drac's long dead love subplot, recycled from Curtis' horror soap opera "Dark Shadows."

I was rewatching "Shockwave" ( #StarTrekENT S1E26) recently and noticed an equipment ID plate on the back of a monitor Captain Archer was using to meet with Admiral Forrest. It is very similar to ID plates used on US military equipment.

Kolchak: The Night Stalker's final episode "The Sentry" was clearly inspired by Star Trek's "The Devil in the Dark." Except one had a subterranean reptile creature and the other had a silicon based throw rug.

In the pilot (imaginatively titled "Pilot") of "Night Stalker," the 2005 reboot of "Kolchak: The Night Stalker," Darren McGavin's Carl Kolchak was digitally inserted in a newsroom scene. Proving two Kolchaks are better than one.

In Hinduism, the #Rakshasa was a shape-shifting #monster with a taste for human flesh. Known to TV audiences as a monster-of-the-week in #KolchakTheNightStalker ( #HorrorInTheHeights). Appearing as the person their victim trusted most, the fiend easily overcame its next meal.

Why do vampire movies seldom show the vampire actually stepping out of or into the coffin? Because there's no graceful or scary way to do it.

Captains of the Clouds (1942), directed by Michael Curtiz and starring James Cagney, features great video of vintage military training aircraft. Including the incredible two-engine #AvroAnson, North American Harvard, Northrop A-17A Nomad, and NA-64 Yale.
