First attempt at spinning thread for #embroidery or #sashiko with some gorgeous golden eri silk top #spinSky. I’ll definitely have to ply this a few times!

Like so many creative activities historically practiced by women and people of color, quilting was once relegated to the realm of the “decorative” and perceived as less important than fine art. [🧵1/3]

Chaos 🧶- the process! I add misc scraps of yarn/thread/roving/fabric to this bowl, and when I’m feeling like some chaotic spinning is in order, I pick coordinating bits, shred em up, and add them into the drafting triangle of singles as I go for tweedy pizazz #infoShare #spinSky #creativeReuse

Tonight’s spinning solace: making more of what I’m calling the “chaos ply” of the 3-ply yarn I’m working on. I make yarn this way because it’s slow and soothing and I want unique results that show it was made by hand 🧶 #spinSky #slowCraft

Curing the Monday blues by plying the indigo-dyed single from yesterday with more naturally colored Jacob fleece into a sumptuous & chaotic marled 3-ply. Planning to knit the cabled #darkAcademia inspired #sweaterVest of my dreams! But first - washing and thwacking #spinSky #shaveEmToSaveEm

#februARTy #socks the first pair of socks I ever made as a baby knitter! Probably about 16 years ago? They’re too small now and need some mending, but I’m just as into the tranquil greens as I was back then 💚 🧶 🧦

For #fungiFriday, please enjoy these giant #amanita muscaria mushrooms I found last autumn. They’re my fav for sure 🍄. Even in the city, we’re surrounded by so much natural beauty

For #februArty #turquoise - a closeup of a feather inspired by the Steller’s jay I made from embroidered watercolor. Currently displayed at the PNW Quilt and Fiber Arts Museum! They’re one of my favorite birds to see so I had to include them in my #corvid project 🪶

1/3 #februArty 18: glasses - bit of a stretch, but I’m including seeing reclaimed fabric in a new way under the prompt! Recently started a revamp of this #thrifted denim vest with some gorgeous vintage quilt squares 🧵 #remade #slowFashion #meMade #quiltSky

Ah yes, it’s time for the annual “Despondent Gourd in Light Dusting of Snow” portrait. Poor Punkin was not born for this ❄️ #dogsOfBluesky #pibblesOfBluesky #PunkinPie

#febArt #februArty is orange today, which is a color I don’t work with very often - BUT I do have a handsome orange gourd of a rescue pibble who’s very proud of the art he did with his dogsitter 🐾 #pibblesOfBluesky

I’m taking today’s #febart prompt of sweet very literally - here is the bûche du Noël my partner and I collaborated on this year! Featuring ginger-spice cookie animals, chestnut mousse, chocolate sponge, fanciful meringue ferns and fungi, and matcha cake for that authentic PNW moss 🍄

#febart Day 6: Nature’s Palette
Extracting color from foraged #mushrooms and #lichen is the goblin witchcraft I’m here for! Walks in the forest are so much better now that I’ve started to learn how to responsibly #forage and use these resources. #naturalDye #mycoPigments #forbiddenSoup

One of the joys of moving is uncovering beloved treasures - I adore this compilation of short stories by @nkjemisin.bsky.social! Some of the characters and worlds are familiar from her other works, some are new, but they’re all a thought-provoking delight #afroFuturism #storiesMatter #booksky

For #sensoryArt prompt “fuzzy” - some roving I mixed on my drum carder which looks uncannily like #Jupiter. It’s mostly merino, with strands of natural colored angora, alpaca, and camel, and was delightfully fuzzy to spin! #spinSky

#januarty 31: Angle - I hemmed these jeans with some flashy bias binding from Brooklyn Haberdashery instead of a boring hem! The hand-stitching has held up wonderfully to machine washing and I love the pop of color. Added bonus: stripy scraps! #meMade #mending #slowFashion
