They seek to divide us, and distract us from our mission towards real justice. Today, I reject these falsehoods and renew our calls for a public safety system that treats every resident with dignity, compassion, and equality under the law.

As I reflect on both this moment, one which brought MPD practice into the light on a national and global stage, I am disgusted to see the way that conservative media and politicians continue to distort this tragic event for their own political aims.
George Floyd’s killing unified Americans in condemning injustice. The narrative is being rewritten.
Conservative commentators play up Floyd’s criminal history and present the officers as victims of politicized justice.
