But why would they? It is inherently an own-goal: Discouraging tourism, which benefits the destination economy. US is just hurting ourselves; doubt foreign countries would reciprocate because they actually understand economics.

As someone who did it (and its a long, unpleasant process), I don't mind getting a brownie point (don't want a parade), even though it was merely an exogenous consequence of how the universe's cards were dealt.

Yes. The strong tendency of many insurers to look for reasons to deny claims is certainly real, but a slightly different issue. They are not opposed to people practicing preventative medicine, so I am not sure they would be motivated to push Kennedy to remove recommendations on screening etc.

I don't think the hypothesized insurance companies paying him makes sense. If a higher percentage of an insurance companies' insureds get seriously ill, go to the hospital, etc., that costs the insurer more than if their pool of insureds has average or better health rates. Kennedy is just deranged.

This supposed plan seems like a physical impossibility. How does one run a rail line between Mexico and Canada without passing through the US (and thus getting tariffed upon entry)? I would understand the sea/port aspect, but the write-up on that substack emphasizes rail as an important component.
