You basically started the discussion between us two. By claiming my statement was wrong and by claiming you know German. I prove my point with sources and gave more example. Then you started to get angry at me. That’s not how it works. That’s how people like Trump work.

Right, as I said in another comment, in English it’s wrong.

In some region it’s even normal to refer to people with article. “Der Björn-Emil”. In other regions this is considered rude. But no one would say “Ich wohne in Schweiz”, ”Ich mache Urlaub in Türkei”. It’s wrong. Same applies to Ukraine. That’s the three countries which came to mind. Might be more.

In English it’s certainly wrong. But I would guess that non-native speakers simply make mistakes here. But that’s how you learn :-)

In German, that is. In French it’s different again.

No, not every country name. You don’t say “the France” or “the Sweden”.

In German you even say e.g. “the Switzerland” or “the Turkey”. No idea about Ukrainian or Russian grammar. Only wanted to mention that this is completely normal in different languages.

No, it’s simply a question of language. Even in German you’re talking about “the Ukraina”.
