Playing a little devil’s advocate, a composer could say that music is meant to be played and one who only listens is missing out on the whole experience, which could be true while the fact that the listener also gets a great experience is also true. They are just different experiences.

I guess it is. I know that personally I am not generally drawn to games that are developed as streamer bait. I want to enjoy playing them for me. If I’m not having fun, no one watching me will either.

It would be interesting to see what the breakdown is of people who do end up buying the game after watching someone play versus those who only ever watch.

It does get problematic when people make sweeping claims about games they have never played. Using your analogy it would be like someone describing what a meal tastes like based on watching someone eat it.

I’ll join the conversation over there. :)

Very true. What kind of community do you envision around devs? There are a few dev communities I’m a part of. They tend to be larger and less personal than those of the content creators I follow.

To be fair, you also did make a statement and I think it’s what a lot are reacting to. “Games are participatory, not passive. You have to *play* them.” Many are reacting that games can be both and that watching isn’t always passive. Definitely something worth discussing.
