Had fun playing around with lighting at Saturday’s bouts. Really digging just having a big-ass cluster of flashes at the center of the track. Less versatile than an even spread, but i really like the look where it works. Some favorite examples:
A super rad roller derby skater in a skark-shaped onesie rounds a turn, fins spread, looking straight at the camera. The skater is lit from the right from a bright, soft light source, leaving the background dramatically underexposed. Two referees wearing roller derby gear, giggling, enjoy some clementines during a break in gameplay. They are brightly lit from above. The bottoms of light stands are clearly visible on the right of the frame, with a clementine balanced on one of their supports. A black and white photo of a lone roller derby referee skating in the middle of the track holding one finger over her head while pointing out of frame to the left with her other hand, indicating the position of the lead point scorer. She is brightly lit from the right and casting a long shadow to the left. Spectators are visible behind her but are in relative darkness. A roller derby skater in a pink jersey and helmet cover with a stripe on it, clearly skating relatively fast, intently focuses into the distance. The scene is evenly exposed and the skater’s face is outlined by rim lighting.
