These themes are great, but not unique to Gatsby, and not particularly well developed either. Personally, I think a reader is better served with a different text, but you’re allowed to like it all you want.

I don’t need the characters to be likable, but I do need them to be compelling. I simply didn’t care what happened to any of them, which makes for a poor novel in my opinion. YMMV.

Fair enough, there’s room for reasonable minds to disagree on whether Gatsby in particular was plagiarized (though I don’t make a habit of patronizing plagiarists if I can help it)

The overall work of Gatsby is still… pretty bad? Beyond the plagiarism and the overplayed green light metaphor, the book fails to have a compelling plot or characters. I get that it’s been assigned as a “classic,” but I’ve yet to meet someone who actually likes the damn thing. At least NLU slaps

That is to say, as long as there are artists there will still be art.
