They are providing some of the most comprehensive data on how LA is... behind on its housing production goals

I'll be presenting work-very-much-in-progress on trends in residential and school segregation at @stanfordeducation.bsky.social #SCANCOR on Monday morning at 10 AM. I hear there are pastries!

Welp.

(Curious that this came from an nsf.gov email address referencing the Standard Application Process at the National Center for Science and Engineering Statistics, which we've never gone through for our data. There is apparently no NCES staff to send the bad news email).

I got food poisoning the day before my diss defense. As I set up, he asked me a classic Sandy question: deceptively simple but threatening to undermine the whole study. I looked at him queasily and he said, "Let's talk about it next week." 😂 Here's us celebrating (and we did talk about it) 3/

States are incentivizing #LIHTC in high opportunity areas. These incentives work, as we show in recent work, but what is high opportunity? Here's the distribution of state opportunity areas by state poverty quintile. Lots of variation

Just some of the things I'm pondering!

Meanwhile, most CA #LIHTC households are ELI while only about 20% of units produced in the last ~15 years are targeted to ELI households

Largest share of #LIHTC units produced in CA is for households earning 50-80% Area Median Income (though share for extremely low-income (<30% AMI) has grown)

Looking forward to reading this (rather than the 2,050 page proposal!) to understand how 56% of growth will occur in "high opportunity" areas (blue, right) while single-family zoned areas (pink, left) are largely untouched
