I think it sort of depends on where you are in the process. Early manuscript? Write the book you want to write/have in the world. Later draft, avoid taking overly prescriptive feedback unless its from a very trusted reader/editor. IMO

In that it's heartbreaking/insufferable/deeply disturbing/psychologically damaging? Yes.
