Why are you so obsessed with policing this language? Particularly, when your grasp of the science is perhaps more limited than you believe? (we don’t even need to talk about your efforts to police/influence discussion regarding access to care for transgender people)

ambiguous genitalia, however, some babies will be phenotypically female and not identified until puberty. Same with antigen insensitivity syndrome. 10-15% of infertile individuals will find that they have abnormalities of their sex chromosomes. Why are you so obsessed with all of this?

This is so ridiculous - sex is assigned at birth based on physical features - rarely are additional tests such as karyotyping or imaging performed. For most people that sex aligns with their innate gender, for trans people it does not. 5-alpha reductase deficiency may be identified at birth due to…

What voices/studies/politicians/journalists/etc. that are supportive
of trans people have you amplified? What studies indicating positive outcomes with gender affirming care have you posted? Have you ever looked into how manufactured controversy re: trans people is being used for political gain?

I think I have read the vast majority of your work.

Of course journalists should examine medical care. Journalists should not, however, fail to consider the voices of a community they write about or the people who actually participate in provision of their care. Objective journalism is good, journalistic activism often is not.

Please post the evidence for this claim. Again, the fact that most people who go on blockers continue with hormone treatment, simply indicates that blockers are not being prescribed indiscriminately and that appropriate assessment is being performed.

And the majority of those who detransition do so due to lack of social support and other issues. Detransition is real, but it is the minority. Limiting care to youth who need it makes it much harder for them to be accepted in adulthood. This also needs to be factored into clinical decision making.

Please post the study you are referring to; as you know many of the older studies that claim to show desistance included youth that were simply gender non-conforming (ie boys who like to played with dolls) not youth that saw themselves as trans.

At the same time I would imagine that you might be offended by a reporter focused on the gay community who only interviewed homophobes or gay men with strong internalized homophobia, but for some reason you don’t appear to see the connection.

The voices that you amplify are continuously trans-phobic, or at the very best trans-skeptical. I don’t think I have ever seen you center the voices of transgender people.

One might also ask about the ethics of your intruding (via journalism) into medical decisions that are best left to patients, families, and their medical teams (not the public, journalists, and politicians who may have motivations other than the best interest of a particular patient at heart.)

Please post data to support your concern that patients treated w/ blockers would otherwise desist. (the fact that most patients on blockers progress to hormones, indicates that the correct patients are being treated.) The treatment satisfaction rate of this cohort is one of the highest in medicine.

A quick Google search also reveals that he is openly and aggressively transphobic. Perhaps department heads were interested in hiring folks who focused on research and education rather than potentially creating unnecessary friction with students and other faculty.

The permanent effects of puberty when gender affirming care is denied can require countless surgeries and make it much harder for people to be accepted by society. These decisions should be left to patients, families and their medical teams, not politicians, journalists and the public.

More likely is the fact that blockers are not prescribed excessively & that screening appropriately selects for trans youth who move forward with hormones. Patients, families, & doctors do not make these decisions lightly. It would be more concerning if many patients did not continue with treatment.
