The "join" is the slip stitch. The chain 3 in each round is to get the height of a double crochet stitch. The "ch3 counts as 1st dc, 1 dc in same st as ch3" functions as a 2dc for increase at the start of that row for the 2dc increase, 3 single dc.

Generally when crocheting a hat like this you would slip stich the finished row to the top stich in the previous chain three (from beginning of row) and then chain three for the start of next row. You should not have to stich together at end. Would you mind sharing pattern for more help?

This is awesome! When I was little we did not have much money and my mom me a homemade cabbage patch doll. She made him to look like my favorite great uncle Leo who wore long underwear and coveralls all the time. She named him "Leo the Kid". He had a birth certificate too that she fabricated.

I also have made these cute dumpling kitties. This one is adjusted to imitate our tuxedo cat.

@rhondamorton.bsky.social No, at least not for a specific item. I just browsed Pinterest until I found this motif pin.it/6oxiLECpe as I wanted a open lacy pattern to follow for a summer sweater.
