Well I think we can forbid things like abortion, because it directly harms someone. But agreed on the other subjects. If we want to stand behind freedom of religion, we must accept that inevitably some will differ from ours.

I agree, but I also believe sex outside marriage promotes a lot of the same things. I just think it’s a difficult thing to outlaw.

Thank you, you as well!
November 18, 2024 at 6:24 PM
That’s not what I’m saying. You can read it as “my understanding”. I’m giving my reasoning. I’ve been told by many people that there are “multiple truths” so I guess you could consider this “my truth”
November 18, 2024 at 6:23 PM
To you. But honestly, I get your point.
November 18, 2024 at 6:21 PM
Except it is debatable. I don’t believe the correct solution in those scenarios is to murder a child. I believe in early delivery or cesarean to preserve the life of the mother. Removing the child from the womb doesn’t mean intentional death.

Thanks- I think people are missing the point of this post though. I was observing something on both sides. Profiles that read like “F*** Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, here to trigger libs!” or “ANTI MAGA, f*** Elon Musk”.
But the longer I’m on the app, the less I see. Algorithm was wild at first.

Not more important, as important.
November 18, 2024 at 6:15 PM
The only thing on that list I would disagree with is banning gay marriage, because I cannot force someone to abide by my religion if they are not physically harming another. Everything else goes against my moral convictions.
I’m also just unsure what conversion therapy generally encapsulates.

figures in the civil rights movement. The fact that some Christian’s were on the wrong side of this issue does not mean that God himself is on the wrong side. Just like how some Jews who persecuted Christ does not make all Jews evil. The same case goes for Muslims, etc.
November 18, 2024 at 6:02 PM
But that’s not safely my point- at that time black men and women weren’t viewed as equal to white men and women. They were dehumanized. Just like today, a fetus is dehumanized and has less rights than those living outside the womb.
Fredrick Douglas was a Christian & was one of the most influential

Again, I don’t disagree with most of that. Nobody would be forced to pray if they don’t want to. I don’t necessarily think a certain religion should be “taught” in school but I also don’t think it should be absent altogether. And what does it mean to oppose LGBT rights?
November 18, 2024 at 5:40 PM
But who determines what is fair? Who determines what is in the interest of common good? It could be argued that slavery was in the best interest of some, but that doesn’t make it right.
November 18, 2024 at 5:36 PM
I don’t think Jesus would say is doesn’t matter how immoral you are. A genuine belief in God should change the way you act in this word. We all fall short and require the forgiveness of God, of course. But through prayer and thoughtfulness you can change habits and become closer to God.
November 18, 2024 at 5:34 PM
Why is stating my beliefs considered indoctrination? I’m just asking you questions and answering questions asked of me. I just disagree, I believe there has to be an absolute authority to determine fundamental morals. I don’t believe morals are relative.
November 18, 2024 at 5:29 PM
Well that’s not true. Separation of church and state is not in the constitution. The constitution prohibits the free exercise of religion, meaning there cannot be a state run religion.
November 18, 2024 at 5:22 PM
Where does your moral framework come from, if not God?
November 18, 2024 at 5:16 PM
Because they state Jesus Christ is Lord and want to “cultivate a faithful presence in the courts, in the judiciary and in the academy”? Our country was founded on the belief that moral principles fundamentally come from God, still not sure why that’s extremist.
November 18, 2024 at 5:15 PM
I agree. However I think it’s fair to point out that coming from a religious point of view, you have a moral framework from which you draw your fundamental conclusions on subjects. Others might view that as a “pattern” but it’s just moral principles. (I’m not sure if you’re religious or not)
November 18, 2024 at 5:09 PM
Yes, unfortunately it’s hard to have a discussion on things if every source one side uses is scrutinized. Not saying you shouldn’t research sources, but it slows communication down to a point where it becomes impossible to really talk in a forum like this.
November 18, 2024 at 5:07 PM
Every bullet point in that article sounds reasonable to me. People are allowed to have objections to public policy if they feel it violates their religious and moral beliefs. That doesn’t make them extremists. Just like standing for those things doesn’t make you an extremist.
November 18, 2024 at 5:05 PM
So because something is old, it’s automatically bad? And no, you clearly don’t. But again, you’re free to misunderstand me. I can’t force you to be open minded. If you want to begin a discussion assuming bad intentions, that’s up to you.
November 18, 2024 at 4:51 PM
That’s not a source. Could you include a link explaining why you think the Alliance Defending Freedom is all of those things you’re accusing? Although I’m sure you and I would disagree on what we consider “extremism”.
November 18, 2024 at 4:50 PM
I’ve already told you pro = for. It’s quite literally what I stand for. You don’t get to determine my intentions, but you’re free to purposefully misunderstand me I suppose.
November 18, 2024 at 4:37 PM
Who taught you these things? You’re really just yappin. If you honestly want to understand the pro-life movement you can read about the beginnings of it here adflegal.org/article/what...
