This does not mean that the union will call a strike. It is merely a required step in the process.

Per the terms of the extended CBA the union could not strike without first opting out of the extension. Both the WNBPA and the WNBA reserve the right to opt out w. 48 hrs notice.

WNBPA issues statement explaining the executive committee has been authorized via vote to call a strike "when necessary."

Per the union 93% of players participated in the vote and 98% voted in favor of the decision.

Tuesday night NBA commissioner Adam Silver said he would join WNBA CBA negotiations if necessary and expressed optimism a deal would get done.

The Sky were the only team to bid for the 2026 WNBA All-Star game, sources told me. The WNBA recruited Indiana to host in 2025. The Aces hosted 3 of the 4 All-Star games before 2024.

Why has there been such a disinterest in playing host? And is that changing?
