Associate Professor of Political Science at Miami University (Ohio). Very good at puzzles and correcting misinformation about welfare.

My first book:

More than 40% of respondents were unsure if a given situation is legal in their state. And that uncertainty is greater among people with less education.

(There's super interesting findings when you break down these results by opinions on abortion, but you have to read the blog post for that.)

Very excited to share the results from the survey @michalraucher.bsky.social & I conducted during our first year as @prri.org public fellows.

prri.org/spotlight/am...

We presented respondents with several vignettes and asked them, "Is this an abortion or a miscarriage?"

I can use AI to message my advisees.

Do we think they can use AI to message me back?

I'm so glad we're putting money into an "arena district" while the academic buildings flood. 😑

Oxford, Ohio turns out for #NoKings.

@reuning.bsky.social did an amazing job speaking, but you’ll have to ask him about that part.

Frida doesn’t care about the Sox starting pitching, but she does need more pets.

I can’t throw something at a guy wearing a shirt this nerdy.

In honor of JoJo’s 9th(!) adoptiversary, the most amusing video I’ve ever taken of her.

It truly captures how little she cares about what we think.

A new @prripoll.bsky.social poll shows big shifts among Democrats and Republicans when it comes to agreement with traditional gender roles over a 9 year period.

Men (41%) are slightly more likely than women (34%) to agree.

What should I do with 10 misprinted copies of my book? @reuning.bsky.social has suggested papier-mâché and door prizes for our Christmas party.

Let me know when I can pay my mortgage with these emails. Until then, I'm uninterested in thanks from upper admin.

Do I have a physical copy of my book yet?
No.
Did @reuning.bsky.social pick up an ice cream pie to celebrate it anyway?
Yes.

I really love it when economists come in and solve political science problems, as if we haven't been thinking about this for years and years.

Are we calling adjuncts "independent contractor teachers" now?

Immediately I thought, "but what percentage of those Catholics are going to mass regularly?"

And lo and behold, Pew has the data broken down by mass attendance.

I have thoughts about NYT's piece on Vance finding the Catholic Church.
I'd argue that his "views on public policy and what the optimal state should look like" actually aren't that aligned with Catholic social teaching. Consider the Church's teaching on immigration:

Three steps to looking like a thoughtful spouse:

1. Make a batch of cookie dough the day after your spouse leaves town.
2. Bake half the batch and eat them.
3. Bake the other half the day they return.

This recycling bin has been collecting the water that drips from my ceiling for nearly 3 months.
I hear the drip, drip, drip after every time it rains.
When I do tv interviews from my office, I have to move the recycling bin so it’s not in the shot.
