Scrutineers are party or candidate appointed volunteers who oversee the vote count, they don't count votes.

What's been going on for a long time?

She's a member of the Country Liberal Party of the NT - she's free to choose who she sits with in Federal Parliament.

Again, it's harvesting contact details, not votes. I agree it should be outlawed but it's up to the politicians to change it, the AEC can't.
May 27, 2025 at 11:06 PM
It's a matter for Parliament - the AEC can't make legislation.
It's also not harvesting votes, it's harvesting contact details.

No, postal votes are returned to the AEC.

The major political parties send out postal vote application forms with their offices as a return address. They harvest name and address data and then send the applications on to the AEC. No votes are ever sent to political parties or candidates

Postal vote application forms not the actual postal votes.
May 27, 2025 at 11:33 AM
Yes, that's mobile polling, not postal voting. Same rules as in a polling place.
May 27, 2025 at 8:44 AM
I am absolutely no fan of Mr Wilson but there's no evidence he has done anything to rig the vote.
May 27, 2025 at 6:15 AM
If people are eligible to be enrolled, then they were likely already enrolled without any intervention, except for the AEC's FDEU program. Enrolment is over 98%.
May 27, 2025 at 6:12 AM
I think you're confusing postal vote application with the actual voting papers which only come directly from the AEC. The only things in the envelope are the voting papers and instructions on how to complete the postal vote so that it is returned correctly.
May 27, 2025 at 5:56 AM
As you say, both parties sent out how-to-vote information with postal vote application forms. The actual voting papers arrive straight from the AEC with no political party info included.
May 27, 2025 at 5:41 AM
Ok, I'm genuinely interested in what you mean by "postal vote forms randomly assigned"?
May 27, 2025 at 4:58 AM
What do you mean by pre-poll? Mobile Polling? Were you working for the AEC?
May 27, 2025 at 3:49 AM
Do you have proof of this happening? What do you mean by "postal-vote forms randomly assigned"?
May 27, 2025 at 3:47 AM
None of the local Councils around me in regional NSW have rules about timing, only placement. State elections are different as they have set terms.
May 13, 2025 at 8:05 AM
Less than 100 votes triggers a recount.
May 13, 2025 at 7:46 AM
There are no AEC restrictions about when signage can be erected - some local Councils may have rules.
May 13, 2025 at 7:45 AM
Yeah, I can't see any home allowing some mass gathering to fill in postal votes, no matter how partisan they are. And again, they arrive separately so I'm not sure Maud is going to want to delay filling it in so she can do it as part of a group!
May 13, 2025 at 7:43 AM
It's a tough job controlling the volunteers at elections. I'd say the AEC will be looking at it as part of the normal reviews after the election - from talking to people in the AEC, it was definitely much more of an issue for their temporary staff this event.
May 13, 2025 at 12:48 AM
Same electorate! Yes, I spoke to quite a few people who were really put off by their tactics at the polling booths. The divide between the reasonable local Liberal members and the over-the-top ring-ins was quite obvious where I voted.
May 13, 2025 at 12:35 AM
I suspect the state electoral commissions do too - NSW does.
Although blanks are the highest percentage, when you look at the other reasons, most are accidental/ignorance. CALD and low socioeconomic electorates tend to have higher rates of informality.
May 13, 2025 at 12:31 AM
They conduct an informal ballot paper study following every event. The latest published ones I could find were from 2016:

I don't know that they were all that successful. My electorate is marginal and the Libs pulled out all of the tricks and Labor increased their margin.
May 13, 2025 at 12:15 AM
Regular volunteers yes but I just can't imagine new volunteers who were there just for voting would have been allowed in 2022 as the OP is saying.
