The 'piggy' remark is throwback from a vault of verbal abuse a child hears at home, like from toxic, demeaning parent AND clearly projection. He doesn't like himself or his obesity, ailments, so casts it at woman--he doesn't like women because baby brain associates them with 'abandoning' mother.

I was investigating the novel by Solvej Balle 'On the Calculations of Volumen'. On the first page is says the story takes place on the 18th of November. Then I looked at today's date.....

Age 4 I told best friend Marsha's mother I would marry M one day. Her mother reminded me that in Baptist Memphis, 1957, girls could not marry girls. BUT my father next door said if I kissed my elbow, a girl COULD turn into a boy, vice versa & back again.

Reminded me of 'Wisconsin Death Trip', the great 1999 James Marsh documentary & 1973 John Lesy book. And the mid 19thc. photos of asylum patients taken by Hugh Welch Diamond in UK, about to be auctioned by Christies, featured in this weekend's FT magazine (Saturday), by Clive Cookson.
