I personally love "Metaphysical Animals" for breaking the mould for academic philosophy in focusing on friendship and life so I would choose that one. "The Women are Up..." focuses more on meta-ethical theory, not biography. Both are good.

My late father was profiled all the time in *western* airports we think because of his "middle eastern appearance". But it may also have been the diplomatic passport. We never feared he would disappear, however.

It sounds old fashioned, but it is beautiful when people can accompany each other through life with all its challenges, ups and downs. I feel like some people are becoming too individualist to do this anymore. It's an ideal worth striving for even as people should be free to choose .
