Ban “bull bars” in Seattle. Safety of people outside the vehicle is a legitimate area for regulation.

These bars alter collision dynamics of vehicles, increasing the risk of severe injury to people walking & biking.

Shoulder to Shoulder in Seattle.

In the pouring rain today. 4 women working to makes things better

Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal
CM Alexis Mercedes Rinck
Dionne Foster for City Council
Erika Evans for City Attorney (speaking)

Is the US really interested in zero traffic deaths or Vision Zero? That depends according to this article.

A patient brought me this publication today. Which means my message is getting thru ie that transportation built around cars makes us sicker and often kills.

Just visited TJs. They pay their employees a living wage on Sundays

Why not every day?

Doctors are writing more paper prescriptions

Apparently you can mail a paper prescription to Canada.

Jardiance costs $1800 for 90 days here with insurance. Cash pay in Canada costs $150. Jardiance has a good track record of keeping people off dialysis.

This lady using helpful hand gestures to indicate she is looking for I-90 as she drives the bike lane under the University bridge. Right after she nearly hit my 16 year old on a bike.

@seattledot.bsky.social might need a better design. 😊

A dangerous left turn by a driver this am onto a crosswalk. This one at least was going slow.

A new bill to be introduced by @staterepjuliareed.bsky.social will hold drivers liable for hitting people in crosswalks and bike lanes. No more excuses like “they came out of nowhere”

Love using my bike to knock on doors before the election.

Because while I’m locking my bike outside a home getting things together, people wonder why I’m there. They often come talk to me!

“I’m not into politics”

I’d love to tell the people behind these doors that “politics is into you”!

5 days a week, 8hrs a day paid lobbyists swarm city hall to make sure politics extracts as much money as possible from average people.

We’re all into politics whether we know it or not.

What can go wrong when the military uses cities as “training grounds”.

Here’s Northern Ireland during Bloody Sunday when British paratroopers patrolled the streets.

Emergency at Overlake hospital.

Overflowing bike rack. Response from the hospital within 3hrs of when I asked? “We’re putting in 2 new racks”

Just goes to show. When you ask, things can improve. But you have to ask.

Why can’t we have nice things like this in Seattle & King County.

Temporary plastic flexible bollards that bounce back if hit. They protect people walking or biking on busy roads. They also force drivers to go slower & prevent crashes.

Great public health measure!

4 people in their stride. Seattle.

Passersby expand to fill the space after moving cars are made to disappear.

Amazing how conversations among people increase as car numbers decrease, simply by filtering who is allowed to enter the street for a few hours.
September 7, 2025 at 12:57 AM
“Leave some Space” asks Seattle DOT to this car owner parked too close to intersection . Very proactive to ask drivers nicely not to endanger people walking & biking

But why not give communities tools to do it themselves. A standard design planter box with reflectors would be a better deterrent.

Love this crooked sign on the Eastrail trail exhorting people on foot or bike to “Act predictably”

Funny that there are no signs on road sides asking drivers to act safely or predictably.
August 29, 2025 at 4:12 PM
I’m always amazed in downtown Seattle.

By the number of intersections preventing me from crossing.

Lucky outcome here forcing me down one side of Seneca to come face to face with the lovely foliage of Coleus plants.
August 25, 2025 at 5:30 PM
The ingenuity of drivers!

Once he realizes he’s driving the wrong way on a one way street, he jumps the barrier into the bike lane and and accelerates away at speed.

Real class that. Even for Seattle.
August 23, 2025 at 12:47 AM
People walking are suspicious.

Can be the only reason for this sign in Kirkland. No restrictions on vehicles.

I would love if walking was the default. Without restrictions.
August 21, 2025 at 5:57 PM
What’s wrong with this street?

No kids. The city gives all the space to cars. And we give our kids to sports leagues. Which often force people to drive elsewhere.

Street play is unique. Keeps kids & family in the neighborhood. We need to bring it back - no permits required.

Doctors tell me all the time "I stay clear of politics"

But politics is the #1 factor influencing how long our patients live.

Might explain why @wilsonforseattle.bsky.social is running for Mayor of Seattle. Good universal childcare? It improves long term health outcomes.
August 14, 2025 at 5:32 PM
I can’t walk 9 blocks to a bus stop with a broken ankle. Or safely drive a car.

But I can bike independently 9 miles to work.

Protected bike lanes help people be independent. E-bikes and e-trikes super charge mobility.

Glad to see more people out. The VA trains almost every doctor in the United States. I learned more in one year at the VA in Boise then I did at the UW in 2 years. Without VA workers in support, veterans will suffer. I support them.
August 13, 2025 at 4:39 PM
If you value your health, living on a busy road with higher air pollution, noise, speeding vehicles is not good.

A friend at AMLI in Wallingford spoke to me today at the traffic circle as I weeded. Units are same price as "The Jack", but always full. People want a walkable neighborhood & greenery.
August 10, 2025 at 7:37 PM
Cars killing people walking.

Seems a recurrent theme in this terrific Italian drama on Netflix

Two women figure it out. The police seem clueless that cars can be used to inflict violence.

Sounds true to life.
August 7, 2025 at 10:06 PM
“Dystopian” was the immediate answer.

When I asked my Seattle 11th grader about her walk thru downtown Bellevue.

“Too many ultra modern buildings & nobody walking except people with dogs on streets that are too wide”

Maybe the Council should talk to kids.
