My favorite thing this year... One of my HS students, unprompted, synthesized our astronomy and basic chemistry units so well that he decided to calculate how many lions it would take to kill a star, based on the composition (esp. iron content) of a lion.

2 hours before an MLK day lunch in Cols OH, Commissioner Boyce was told he couldn't speak about DEI. He couldn't fathom this, so he declined to speak. There's a media blackout @ EPA, Dept of Interior, Depth of Agriculture.

I’m not sure if everyone outside academia is aware that a delay or “pause” in grant funding often means the researchers themselves are lost from the field, along with their expertise.

NIH appears to have canceled/postponed all of its study sections—the independent review panels that approve federal grants for health research.
Such grants fund the work/salaries of 300k people at more than 2,500 institutions

All NIH study sections canceled indefinitely. This will halt science and devastate research budgets in universities.
