I am so grateful for the field team at IPA Kenya. True experts

I don’t think it’s easy to capture all the small details that affect surveys and evaluations, from translations and question wording to survey fieldwork and implementation

If you think RCTs are easy then you have never done any 😂

He relates this to more emphasis needed to model food preferences and demand in a world where ozempic and similar meds are changing tastes and leading to likely substantial changes in consumption

People taking these meds buy less stuff (overall) and buy healthier foods!

Great talk 👏👏👏👏

He notes both empiric and theoretical lit that highlights preferences are shaped by life experiences and dynamics affect a wide variety of disciplines including political voting behavior (note the pic of Brian growing up on his family farm!) but also risk tolerances
July 28, 2025 at 3:20 PM
Talk focuses on how traditionally consumer preferences are assumed to be exogenous. Yet at the same time in producer theory technology is modeled as dynamic. And the role of education has been noted to affect preferences
