Tangential, but no one under 40 will ever understand what a big deal long distance phone calls used to be. Expensive in the US and a genuine ordeal for overseas. As late as 1986, ATT could only handle 25 US-UK phone calls simultaneously. 25!

I think being excited by that smell is hardwired into their brains, I’d expect that once that dog is spayed and has a normal spayed dog smell your dog wouldn’t be overly excited anymore—or at least anymore excited than he is by meeting a new dog

On the not spayed option I’ll share this: our male dog was obsessive about smelling or spayed female until he was neutered, and within a week of getting neutered he no longer cared and only politely sniffs her now (2 months later). They really do live in the moment with regard to those smells.
