I feel they’re understating it slightly. They need to sound strong!

The problem is that I agree with Lesley on a lot but I’m not comfortable with the contradiction of her quite radical vision for Scotland but seeming defence of a wing of the SNP that doesn’t share that vision - it feels mixed up and I think Cherry is definitely a game player with her own agenda.

You’re not - you shouldn’t have to listen to eejits like this character that’s stepped in for Pat. When I’ve discussed the gender issue with Norwegian friends they can’t believe how mad things have gotten over here with it. I think there’s a bit more level headedness over there.

You’re not going to get an answer from @lesleyriddoch.bsky.social on that one Sofia. I’m a big fan as well but yesterday’s episode was horrible and unpleasant. Really disappointed in the direction things have gone with this ballon that’s stepped in.

I love listening to this podcast but that was really unpleasant. Joanna Cherry’s former election agent is really changing the tone of the show. In the past there was an least an attempt to avoid the polarising trans topic - but with the new guy that has come in it’s becoming a difficult listen.

Unless the SNP are going force kids to attend classes and work I don’t think they’ll be able to close the gap. I don’t think it’s a realistic aspiration.
August 6, 2025 at 7:05 PM
But then isn’t that because of the Salmond split - Forbes was supported by those who disliked Sturgeon - and this ties in with the conspiracy theories that part of the party seemed to believe. They were kind of radicalised against what the party used to stand for.

The thing I don’t get is that folk like Lesley Riddoch seem sympathetic to Cherry and Ewing and I can understand it when they’ve done so much harm. It’s a strange divide.
July 20, 2025 at 9:14 PM
The problem is that if there is an electoral defeat we’ll lose a majority of MSPs who are actually on the left and there will be a push from the minority on the right to take control of the party. The movement seem to love Cherry but the members did vote for Yousaf.
July 20, 2025 at 9:11 PM
And this is where they’ve been so effective - they’ve pushed more left wing younger votes away from the party. The strength is gone but they’ve also created so much division and hatred toward the party as a whole & turned off voters who hear their conspiracies. The MSPs need the support of the left.

I feel like a faction within the party with the help of the unionist press & the likes of WoS totally attacked and destroyed the centre left consensus within the SNP. I think the Ewing, Cherry & Forbes of the party did a lot of damage.
July 20, 2025 at 8:47 PM
But do you think that will happen with Swinney & Forbes? I can’t see it. Swinney is trying to stop the infighting & tackle the narrative that anything & everything the SNP do, think, or say is a disaster. Forbes is there for whatever reason, but they can’t inspire activists. This is their problem.
July 20, 2025 at 8:44 PM
They don’t inspire me either but I do think what’s happened to them has been unfair. They were hammered for being progressive, suddenly Kate Forbes was spectacular and the government moved to the centre. This wasn’t what I wanted but apparently the movement did.
July 20, 2025 at 8:16 PM
It’s hard to inspire when you’re being attacked from all sides often completely unfairly. The SNP and the Greens got a majority of the vote in 2021 - then we had complaints to the police and a faction that was more interested in destroying Sturgeon than advancing independence.
July 20, 2025 at 7:35 PM
As it stands there’s a solid majority for pro union parties in Scotland - until we change that there’s very little pressure that can be applied. So if you want inspiration, inspire folk to stop trashing the party of independence so they can act with strength. We’re weak just now.
July 20, 2025 at 7:02 PM
No one can just give us a route - Sturgeon couldn’t, Salmond as leader Alba couldn’t and neither can Swinney. As a movement we need to push but we won’t do that if we continue to attack each other because of U.K. intransigence - it’s time to focus our anger where it should be focused - that works.
July 20, 2025 at 6:57 PM
I was thinking about voting SSP for my second vote but given how badly trans people are being treated I’m now leaning back to the Greens to try and show a bit of solidarity with people who are being sneered at and treated like they don’t count.

I suppose the vision is one that can actually win yes - rather than just satisfying impatient yes supporters in the short term before delivering another vote. We need to be wise to this.

He didn’t have no intention of following it through. They planned a referendum to give Scots a say - they campaigned a won a mandate which was blocked by the U.K. and further blocked by the courts. Stop making up lies.
December 10, 2024 at 2:13 PM
Quite frustrating because the Scottish Tories have escaped a lot of scrutiny for the actions of their party in government - while there has been an effort to blame the SNP for the impact of U.K. austerity on Scotland. Scottish Tory leaders are accountable for actions of their partners in London.
December 9, 2024 at 10:09 AM
In 2021 Scotland voted for a 2nd referendum with a mandate stronger & vote share higher than any other previous U.K. referenda but we’ve been completely ignored - we’re no longer a threat. They can do what they want & half the country will just put up with it.
November 30, 2024 at 7:35 PM
The hate campaign against Sturgeon and the rest of the SNP predates the Supreme Court ruling. There’s a section of the Yes movement that has become radicalised & hateful - this is a manifestation of that.
