More editing today, so here's a snippet from my WIP The Kings Raven.
Just Trig annoying Raven to pass the time while travelling.
It is getting harder to find something that doesn't have spoilers though, as I get close to finishing this!

Raven shakes her head. "I cannot believe you still got a plough when it is the end of summer." "Just lucky I guess." "Hmm." "To be fair it was rusty and had grass growing around it." "Yes but you still saw it before me." "That's ok, you're looking out for dangers and keeping us safe on the road." "True, but it still does not help me to win this game." "Your good at so much, it's ok to have one flaw." "Only one? According to you, when you are with other people I have many." "Well, it wouldn't be right to let you think you're perfect. "Of course not. How silly of me to to think that the person who loves me would tell others I'm perfect. I might start being nice to you or something." "Exactly. I would be worried if you started treating me fairly." Trig grins at Raven. "You are really testing me today." Raven mumbles. "And that is what you live about me, I challenge you." "If that's another way of saying you annoy me so much sometimes that I want to beat you to death, then yes, that is true." "That's how I know you still love me, you haven't done it yet." Raven glares at him.

I go all over the place with my male characters.
I do like having my big strong MMC being the vulnerable one compared to Raven.
"I know what you're thinking, and that's not an option!" Shouts Trig. "What? What am I thinking?" Says Raven, looking innocent. "You think we should split up. It will make it harder for them to find both of us." Raven shrugs, "well, it will." "Haven't you learnt anything? I'm better with you." Trig walks over to Raven. Raven doesn't say anything and Trig takes her hand as she's fiddling with the buckle on her saddle. "I said we are together and I meant it." Trig looks at Raven, with tears in his eyes "Don't leave me." Raven looks up at Trig and starts twirling her ear ring with her other hand, frustrated. "OK, fine. But don't slow me down!" She growls. "I won't, I promise."

It would be cool to do monsters from different cultures. NZ has the Taniwha, (pronounced tonne -e - far). Like a Chinese dragon, but lives in water.

Raven is definitely a Raven, small, smart. She had one as a pet as a child and it became her name.
(Raven is not her real name, she hates her real name).

I loved Roald Dahl's Revolting Rhymes. He knew how to tap into kids dark humour.
My parents were not impressed when they saw the pictures however.

Dinosaurs! I had a little plastic Brachiosaurus 🦕 as a toddler, it went everywhere with me.

Our dinosaur books were not the typical ones, one was what if dinosaurs were around today. My favourite was this one though, who doesn't want to learn safety from accident prone dinosaurs?

My mum started buying Story Times when I was young, they came out every month.

Each magazine had a mix of classic fairytales, myths/legends from different countries, and new stories.

Mostly fantasy and sci-fi, lots did not have HEAs.

They are on YouTube if people want to listen.

Is it YA? Kind of.
Is it fantasy? Yes
Is it horror? Yes
Is it romance? Kind of
