Can we show some love for this year’s Trafalgar Square Christmas tree? It has been an annual gift the people of the UK from the people of Norway for 77 years. It is a Norwegian Spruce which is 20 metres tall and this year, for the first time a replacement tree was planted!

This means that if the Bill passes the historic meat and fish markets at Smithfield and Billingsgate will cease to exist. Smithfield is listed so the building will remain and become perhaps office or retail units and Billingsgate will become flats..

I’m outside the beautiful Guildhall where an historic decision has been made tonight on Smithfield and Billingsgate markets. The City of London Corporation will be depositing a Parliamentary Bill tomorrow asking for the dissolution of its responsibility as market authority.
