Londoner. This is personal, likely to be books, kids, entertainment, play and positivity.
I need a way for a teenage boy to listen to music from his Spotify account, on headphones, but not a smartphone - any ideas?

Am on a train which was delayed leaving New York for 25 minutes. Guy behind me is enraged that it will arrive late in Boston. He assumed it would catch up. The driver needs to think outside the rails.

I have one night in Manhattan with a 12 and 14 year old tomorrow night. Where should we eat?

Three nice things that happened today.

1. Husband’s insta post about our wedding was on Icelandic TV (Sigur Ros may have been included).
2. There was a margarita.
3. October.

You?

The District Line being an utter joy this morning.

Everyone just thrilled it’s Monday; a new start!

The carriage is fragrant with the memory of yesterday’s late-night food + the promise of today’s heat.

The signallers have kindly arranged for us all to have extra time in tunnels together too.

Tremendously enjoyable piece.
This is a piece to file alongside @andrewmale.bsky.social’s timeless “Eric Clapton’s bookshelves” essay.

Please enjoy: Sam Altman’s kitchen of shit.

Character revealed through detail. Pure environmental storytelling.

I reject the cake fashion influencers.
I reject the tyranny of cupcakes.

I am here for your recommendations for fruit cake. My favourite cake but almost impossible to get casually anymore.

Ideally no marzipan but I can take some royal icing if very crisp, plain is best.

HIT ME UP.

Both of these books are such deserving winners. They’re very different but have in common exceptional writing, compelling storytelling and while sometimes heartbreaking, an ultimate message of hope.

Read them. You will love them. 💚💜

A thread of generous clarity on the publishing process from the clever darlings at Canongate - aspiring writers, please read it ❤️
I was going to put the bat down and step away from the dead horse, but now that we've been quoted in the Guardian talking about the AI dingbats, I want to just say a couple of things about self-publishing and the value of $5,000.
