But we can build up our emotional capacity. And I think journalism can help, if we stop delivering raw grief and start helping people process the world together.

Our tiny human brains were built to keep track of the hundred or so people who lived around us, and whose existences were deeply, physically, tangibly intertwined with ours.

There’s only so much information, and only so much grief, we can hold at once.

Once you're done, check out some of the other great indie pubs I'm running the subscriber drive with this month: projectc.biz/backindiemedia

I already know you’re an indie media supporter because you’re here. Now, I’m asking you to help ensure good story continues existing for the long haul. You can support this work for just €85/year or €8/month.

What a steal for basically saving democracy.

This means for the first time in my career, I’m working directly for you, the readers. No third parties, no media conglomerates, just a girl, sitting in front of a laptop, asking you to fund her. It feels right, and I’m really excited about it.

Together, I want to help us imagine what a radically different media landscape could look like. One that connects, one that takes care of its sources, its readers, and its makers.

With your support, I’ll be able to launch the good story podcast, fund fact-checking, and publish a French version. I’ll also continue creating the intimate and political essays that some of your fellow subscribers have said were “so thoughtful” “wonderfully nuanced” and “inspired lots of thoughts”.

Without your support, this newsletter (and indie media as a whole) cannot exist. It’s as simple as that.

It’s not enough to be a consumer of media. You must be a stakeholder in it. This is the only way we get out of this mess we’re in.
September 15, 2025 at 8:32 AM
To help you do that, I need you to help me fund this newsletter. This is why I am launching my very first subscriber drive, alongside dozens of other cool independent media creators. My goal is to get 20 new paying subscribers this month.
September 15, 2025 at 8:32 AM
I want to help you do that, without fluff or jargon, as a journalist but also as a human. I hope to challenge your preconceived ideas and expand how you think about media justice.

It’s more important than ever for people to understand the media ecosystems they live and breathe in. We are fed so many stories, so much information every day, and we need to understand how these are built, who shapes them and why, because knowledge is power.

When I started at Reuters in London 10 years ago, I believed in speaking truth to power and creating empathy through fearless, independent reporting. I still do. This is why I’m launching good story, an indie newsletter to reclaim journalism, non-fiction and true stories as forces for the revolution
