Superman was conceived as an immigrant story, the comics even had storylines about that. He is literally an illegal alien.

Do you remember how much money they made off it? That's what they're salivating over, that, and control of resources, and a launchpad to attack China. Human life is not a factor for them, what's a few more million, they'll say it was "worth it".
