How do I manage 3 colours in stranded #knitting ? Here’s an even more extreme example showing 4 colours 🤪
I hold the background colour in the right hand and the rest in the left 🧶
Which reminds me, I haven’t done much stranded knitting lately and I miss it. Gotta find a stranded project ☺️

To get a smooth edge when casting off in the round, complete the chain formed at the top before sewing in the end. #knitting

NERD ALERT 🤓
After my recent post on catching floats in two-handed #knitting, I was asked how to do it on the purl side!
You can find more on this in chapter 23. The Difficult One of my book Learn to Knit in 50 Squares annaplexisinenglish.wordpress.com/2025/10/21/l...

I recently shared how Continental and English styles are combined in two-handed stranded knitting. I was asked to also show how to catch floats in two-handed #knitting.

‼️⚠️ DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME, unless you are an experienced knitter or you’re using a lifeline 😅

but personally, I like to take a risk 😎 and I hate fiddling with cable needles

So this is how I make a C6b cable twist without a cable needle 🧶 🍂 #knitting

I get a lot of comments about which technique is better: Continental or English knitting. But we don’t have to pick a side! There’s room for everyone in this world and the two techniques can even co-exist in peace and harmony and complement each other in two-handed stranded knitting 🤗

How do you get a stretchy and invisible folded hem on a top down sweater? 🧶🌺☕️🫖🧶

Recently, I saw this method of grafting the hem together, and I’m not going back! The result is invisible and as stretchy as the rest of your knitted fabric.

Replying to a question I received: Here’s how to tink (i.e. un-knit) twisted stitches, i.e. stitches worked through the back loop (ktbl and ptbl) 🧶 🍂 #knitting

Get rid of the first yarn end in advance by sewing it into your working yarn.

Taper the yarn end first, e.g. by fraying it with a scissor blade.

Rub the join between your moist hands to make it even smoother 🧶🌺☕️🫖🧶

How to join skeins 🧶 🧶 #knitting
🧶 Make sure to taper the yarn ends first, either by tearing the yarn apart or by fraying them with a scissor blade.

My favourite method for small circumference knitting in the round is dpns 😇, but lately I’ve been practicing the magic loop and thanks to this tip it feels faster and easier:
💡🧶👉 At needle changes, twist the right hand needle to form a loop, then put your left thumb through the loop to the left.

You’ll find any number of complicated patterns and fancy stitches out there (not least on my page 😇), but the truth is you can live a long and happy knitting life with only the simplest of stitches.
Enjoy every stitch and make things you like ✨ ✨ ✨
#Knitting can be your comfort zone 🧶🌺☕️🫖🧶

🧶 🍂 Once you’ve learned how to purl, you’ll probably need to weave in your next ends in stocking stitch.
Here’s how to do it.
🧶 Weave in the ends on the wrong side
🧶 Follow the path of the stitches
🧶 Weave in approx 5-7 cm

Square 03. The Purly One of the Learn to knit blanket introduces the purl stitch. The knit and purl stitch are the two basic stitches in knitting and are the basis of more or less everything you will learn from now on.

Such a relief when you can pull out the lifelines without having needed them 😅

Still, I’d never knit cabled brioche without them 🧶🌺🍂

I like to use unwaxed dental floss: It’s thin, slippery and it won’t break 🧵 #knitting

🧶 Most complicated decrease ever: The Brioche 4-stitch purl decrease
It is admittedly complicated, but that’s how you knit these pretty little leaves 🍂

Agreed, those underarm gaps on raglan/yoke sweaters can be VERY frustrating 🤨

Here’s the most effective method I have found so far to eliminate them 🧶🧶🧶 #knitting

How to slip the first stitch purlwise and why 🤓🧶 #knitting
Slipping the first stitch purlwise creates a neat little chain along the selvedge, instead of the knotty edge you get if you knit the first stitch.

When I join a new colour, I like to weave in the end right away. I don’t mind weaving in ends, but on projects with lots of them, it helps to get a few out of the way early 😅

Regular cast off
Back to basics: This is the most basic cast off. It turns out a little tight, so I like to use a larger needle for the cast off row.

After my recent post showing the knit stitch (English vs. Continental), a lot of you asked how I purl.
I use the Norwegian purl — which, apparently, is quite controversial 😅

🧶 Some find it too labour-intensive — but it does save you from moving the yarn back and forth between knit and purl stitches

How do I hold the yarn when #knitting?

I got this question after yesterday’s post. This is how. My pinky controls the tension of the yarn.
